Testosterone boosters… are they all they’re cracked up to be?
And amongst the muck of supplements out there… can you confidently trust one supplement versus another?
I decided to ask the guys in the Anabolic Tribe Facebook Group (join here free) and decided to put together a list of the pros and cons of testosterone boosters, what ingredients to look for, and if they’re truly necessary to boost your testosterone levels.
(here’s a screenshot from the poll below if you’re curious)
So let’s cut through the crap and clear the air on what works. What doesn’t. And why you should care.
First, the pros and cons of testosterone boosters…
Correction: The pros and cons of *effective testosterone boosters*
Let’s start with the cons.
Con #1: TONS of crappy products
Listen. Low-t is a MAJOR pain point for us men.
And scum-bag marketers will take advantage of those men suffering.
As will doctors who prescribe testosterone replacement therapy despite millions of guys NOT needing it… seriously.
A recent article published in the New York Times published this excerpt:
“In many cases, doctors are prescribing testosterone without even ascertaining whether a patient’s testosterone levels are actually low or whether he has a medical condition that justifies it.”
It’s easy these days for a “supplement company” to slap a label on a white bottle and call it the all-powerful testosterone turbocharger.
Yet don’t fall for everything out there…
Pro Tip #1: Here’s how to tell a legit testosterone booster from a fake… check the FDA’s “tainted supplement” list (click here to use the search tool).
Pro Tip #2: Your testosterone booster must have a CGMP Guarantee. This stands for current good manufacturing practices and is mandatory of the FDA to assure dietary supplements are manufactured consistently as to identity, purity, strength, and composition for the consumer.
So make sure your testosterone booster isn’t blacklisted and has the CGMP stamp of approval.
Con #2: It Ain’t Roids
I’m not pro-steroids… and most guys reading this article aren’t.
Yet most men assume a testosterone booster is going to make them look like the hulk. Hate to break it to you… it won’t…
This con is damaging in two ways…
1 – You feel discouraged. And think you’re not benefiting from the supplement when it may actually be working for you.
2 – You become lazy. Thinking the supplement is all you need. So you stop exercising. Quit eating healthy. And compromise your sleep patterns. Assuming this one test-booster is going to work its magic for you.
Sorry, my friend but this is the fastest way to get the least out of your testosterone supplementation…
Instead, it’s the man who resumes a healthy lifestyle while adding a potent and effective all-natural t-booster to his regimen who actually experiences the potential benefits.
Now that we’ve got a couple of cons out of the way. Here are the pros to finding an all-natural testosterone booster that actually works.
Pro #1: Better Than “The Alternative”
Natural testosterone boosters are NOT steroids with lethal side effects. Nor are they prohormones. Or expensive hormone replacement therapy that once you start you won’t be able to stop…
(seriously, if you start TRT you’ll have to stay on it for life… if you decide to “stop” your natural testosterone levels will take a massive blow)…
Natural testosterone boosters contain vitamins, minerals, a specific dosage of herbs, and other potent extracts.
Think of it like taking a multi-vitamin for your master male hormone.
I’ll go over the best testosterone boosting ingredients to keep an eye on further down this article. Yet first…
Pro #2: Safe and Well Tolerated
Most natural testosterone boosters are safe and tolerated well in the body.
With that said… I can’t speak for the underground test-boosters on the black market…
Listen. If you want to boost your testosterone levels via supplementation finding a quality product is key.
Again. Make sure the product has a CGMP stamp of approval and isn’t on the FDA’s “tainted supplement” list.
Pro #3: The Extra Anabolic Benefits
When you use a reliable and potent natural testosterone booster you’ll often get ingredients that deliver benefits that work together to raise your t-levels…
Including natural nutrients proven to skyrocket energy, libido, physical strength, sex drive, stamina and many other “manly” benefits.
And once you begin experiencing these benefits you’ll also enjoy greater motivation and better mood, which boosts your workout performance and consistency, which in turn helps T.
Basically, an effective testosterone booster filled with high-quality ingredients can take all areas of your life to the next level.
Now that we’ve spoken to the pros and cons of testosterone boosters… here are the ingredients you want to stay away from…
(Followed by the ingredients you NEED)
T-boosting Fraud: Velvet Antler
There was a period eight years ago or so that velvet antler was the “new rage” in testosterone boosters.
This ingredient is derived from deer antlers and has been used in ancient Chinese medical practices…
However, it was all hype…
There’s no true research to prove velvet antlers have a positive effect on male hormone production.
T-boosting Essential: Longjack Extract
98% of your testosterone is biologically inactive and unable to provide any real benefit.
While only 2% of your testosterone is biologically active at any moment…
Longjack has been shown in clinical studies to tap into the other 98%, increasing your free-testosterone levels and all its masculine benefits.
T-boosting Fraud: Fenugreek
This herb is known to boost physical performance and help improve your male sex drive.
And although there are a few pieces of evidence that suggest it can support healthy testosterone levels…
The one drawback is it drives down DHT… a powerful masculine hormone that has testosterone-like effects. Which is too much give and take if you ask me…
T-boosting Essential: Zinc, Magnesium, & Vitamin B6
Okay, I know it’s a three-in-one, however, it’s for good reason…
A precise combination of highly bioavailable forms of Zinc, Magnesium, and Vitamin B6 assists in testosterone production, fuel protein synthesis, recovery, strength, and metabolism.
T-boosting Fraud: Holy Basil
Holy Basil has been shown to help boost libido… and because of that, sneaky marketers have touted this as a “testosterone booster.”
Now, Holy Basil may help with infertility and low sex drive… however there’s been no research to confirm it as a valid t-booster.
T-boosting Essential: Diindolymethane (DIM)
You’ve always been told to eat your greens – but did you know that’s because of DIM?
The research-backed dose of DIM decreases production of estrogen and blocks the breakdown of testosterone into estrogen.
So you can finally build chiseled pecs, not chubby lumps…
You’d have to eat about 6 pounds of veggies to get as much DIM as this supplement packs in each serving.
When Should You Try An All-Natural Testosterone Booster?
Testosterone is what makes a man… a man.
High levels pack on muscle, strip off belly fat, and skyrockets your sexual appetite.
Research even proves having high levels of it makes you appear more attractive to the opposite sex.
However, with upwards of a half a million new diagnosed cases of low testosterone each year, it’s a simple fact that most guys don’t produce enough of it.
To make matters worse, for every extra ounce of body fat men have, more testosterone becomes locked up and completely unusable.
Unsure of where your testosterone levels are? You’re not alone.
This simple quiz can tell you, in 30 seconds, if you’re unknowingly below average testosterone levels.
- When you bend over at the waist, can you grab at least an inch or two of belly fat?
- Do you have a lack of energy, or find yourself reaching for a mid-afternoon coffee or energy drink?
- Do you have a lower libido than you used to, or worse – relying on prescription medication to get the job done?
- Is everyone else adding muscle or getting lean, yet you’re stuck at a plateau?
- Does your belly just seem to keep getting bigger, even though you’re eating right and working out?
- Do you feel less attraction from women?
- Are you overworked, not getting enough sleep, or burdened by financial stress?
If you answered yes to 2 or more of these questions you could be suffering from alarmingly low testosterone levels and you can naturally crank it up with a supplement… IF you want to…
Truth is, you don’t have to be “for” or “against” natural testosterone supplements like other “radicals” who choose one side or the other…
I think they can be incredibly helpful in making men look, feel, and perform like a man again… and if that’s something you want, supplementation could be an option for you…
It’s safe. Potent. And can nearly double your testosterone quickly, safely, and naturally.
Remember, supplementation can never replace an anabolic diet, proper exercise, and quality sleep. If you don’t have those three things in order you should probably wait before utilizing a testosterone booster.
